Our Mission
The MDBAA strives to foster unity among alumni, empower our youth, and promote education within the Monrovia and Duarte communities. We are committed to developing scholarship funds and awarding annual scholarships to Monrovia and Duarte High School students. Additionally, we maintain a memorial to honor the legacy of deceased African American alumni.
Our Vision
Our vision is to inspire positive change by serving as role models in our communities. We aim to provide education and support to parents and students on the importance of higher education, professional trade skills, and entrepreneurial opportunities. Through our efforts, we aim to celebrate the accomplishments of Monrovia and Duarte’s leaders, recognize community heroes and changemakers, and honor the rich history of African American culture and contributions.

About Us
Founded in 1992, the Monrovia Duarte Black Alumni Association (MDBAA) is a non-profit organization focused on advancing education for youth in the Monrovia and Duarte communities. Our dedicated members reinvest in the next generation by providing scholarships and educational opportunities for local students.
Our History
The MDBAA was established by a group of passionate alumni committed to supporting their community. Our founders created a space for alumni to gather, share experiences, and help youth pursue higher education. Early initiatives included the creation of the Yearly Family Picnic, the Dinner Dance (now the Gala), the High School Scholarship Fund, and an SAT Prep Class, most of which continue to this day.
Our Present
The organization, led by dedicated presidents has continued to build on those original accomplishments. The Annual Family Picnic (now the Annual Family Reunion in the Park) and Scholarship Fund and Annual Gala continue today. Additionally, the organization successfully hosts Black History Month programs all throughout the month of February that include guest speakers, an elementary school Art Festival, programming in our middle schools, Library programs, Reading in our classrooms, a wellness event, and a luncheon/program. We also provide college financial preparation workshops, host a Jazz and R & B Festival and participate as vendors at various events throughout the year. We have established many community partnerships including the Monrovia Unified School District, the City of Monrovia, Changemakers, the Bahai’s, Interfaith Council, the Duarte Historical Museum, the San Gabriel Valley Volunteer Center and more. We have gained many sponsors and proceeds from our events have allowed us to award college scholarships each year to graduating Monrovia and Duarte High school students. To date, more than $150.000 in scholarship monies has been awarded.
